Is there a way to run a check register report that details account distribution (expense account)? The only thing I can find that comes close is the Journal Report however, I don't want voided checks or sub-accounts to show up. I've done a few custom reports but cannot figure out how to do this in Custom Reports.

You are correct, this won't be able to be accomplished in Custom Reports in v9 or 10, since you can only report on balances, rather than transactions.
The Journal Report will allow you to define the Major Account and Sub Account, so only transactions that have affected the checking account. You can't, however choose to exclude voids from the report.
