Exporting Pictorial Directory

Post by tborgal »

We are trying to create a pictorial directory of the missionaries we support. We need to add information to some of the missionaries listed and have tried to export the directory as a Word document so this can be done but the pictures do not come with it. Is there a way to accomplish this? We can export as a PDF file but then we can not edit them. Any ideas or information on how to resolve this.

The pictures will not export as I believe the report links to the pictures in the Powerchurch directory when it displays them and/or prints from within the program.

The only advice I can offer is export the file in Word, then import the pictures while in Word.

I have to say that this part of the program needs a complete update. I have been working with it to create a new directory for our church.

The formats are not useable, especially the booklet. It is of little use to have to cut and paste (litterally - not on the computer) or transfer to another program to get something useable.

A directory under the Family option should use family codes not personal codes. I had only parts of families showing up.

Also the option to not print an address in the directory should eliminate the listing all together, not just the address. We de-selected several families thinking they would not print, instead we still got their names and phone numbers listed - once again - cut and paste!

Please work on this area!

Neil,

You say that the pictures won't export, but they do export to a PDF file.

This is the first time we have tried to use this feature and it obviously has some shortcomings.

If the pictures can be exported to a PDF, why can they not be exported to a Word document?

Why have the options at all if you can't complete the function. What good is a Save As selection of a pictorial directory if there are no pictures in it?

I just tried to save the directory as an HTML file and it uses the picture for the very first family for every family in the directory. The screen view is correct but the exported version is wrong.

Considering what Pastor K wrote, it would appear that this feature could use some enhancing in V11.

I just read this over and it sounds very harsh and it is not meant to be. It is a plea for help.

Just ran into another issue here. In the process of trying different export formats I got the following message. "You have reached the maximum of 5 viewer report windows. Please close a window". The wording may not be exact here. However there are no viewer windows open. When I click the OK button I get another message.

error 1952
Method: report_filename_assign
Line 21
Message: Unknown member OREPORT

When I click the OK button I get the same message with the line number 19 in it. Continuing to click the OK button seems to go int an endless loop alternating the line number from 19 to 21. It appears that the only way out is to close the program through the Task Manager.

New information. If you export the report as a "Rich Text File" it does create a Word document with the pictures in it. You can then do some editing to the directory before you print it. Don't know how much editing you can do since I am not very good at working with Word document formatting.

I guess I need to retract some of what I said above, but there are still some issues with this report.

As Tom mentioned (and Tom, I did not test the export just considered what the problem may be) the directory can be exported to RTF, which should work in most any version of Word.

I believe the reason the system asks what persons to include in the directory is the same reason it asks this question when you create the directory under Personal Profiles. There may be people listed under the mailing list directory that you do not want listed under the directory itself. Children not living at home, spouse not a member of the church, etc.

FWIW ... the elimination of the address is just that, it eliminates the address, not the person selected. The only way to do that is to either move the family to a different family mailing list code (IE: From member to former member, and so on), change the checkbox on the family mailing list record to eliminate the checkmark on Include in Membership Reports, or add another filtering data item, such as a special code of some time.

Sounds like a memory cleanup (garbage collection) issue here.

The program (or the operating system) is not releasing memory when a viewing window is closed.
