Personal Profiles - Member # misplaced

Post by Eden Whitehead »

Just installed V11 and converted V10 data.

In Personal Profiles under the Notes & Codes tab, the field labeled "Member No." is fairly large, and blank on my test individual's profile. A couple of fields down, the field labeled "Moved from" is about half the size, and contains "592" which happens to be this individual's member number.

Thank you.

Go back and take a look at your version 10 for this person.

I don't think it is possible that the fields would switch data during the conversion process.

Let us know what you find

Interesting.

I just looked and found that the short field is labeled "Member No." and the larger field - one fields up is labeled "Moved from" and the top field in the column is labeled "Occupation". Sounds like somehow the fields got labeled wrong. It would appear that the member no. data is actually in the correct field.

OK -- I think I found the problem

In V10, Personal Profiles Setup Options, under the Notes tab I have the following:
Note 1: Member No.
Note 2: Occupation
Note 3: Moved from

Don't know what those were set to originally. My very unreliable memory seems to think that I may have swapped the original Note 1 and Note 3 labels, but not the data in the fields (i.e., sure enough! in V10 the member's number is in the field labeled "Moved from"). If this is a true memory and not something I have manufactured, then I guess I thought the data would automatically follow the label swap.

At any rate, looking at V11 Personal Profiles Setup Options, the data came over from V10 in the same format/sequence: Member No., Occupation, Moved from and the data that was in the (possibly user-modified?) Moved from field is, in fact, the member's number.

So, I guess I'll go into the setup and switch the labels to match the data.

Sorry for the false alarm.

Eden,

You're correct, you cannot swap data locations as these are static, and built-in to the design of the system.

That being the case, it is interesting that Setup allowed me to make the change, with no warning or error message.... :|

Eden,

to the system, all you're doing is changing out a label, much as you would to a file cabinet, the location does not change, and the files stay the same, but you're just renaming that location from drawer 1, to drawer 3.

It figures you know what you're doing when you change the the label.

Neil, thanks for the good info.

I fall into the category of knowing just enough to get myself in trouble! But I do find it helpful to know, to some extent, what is going on "in the background."

Again, and as always, thank you so much for your time and kind attention,
