Gift in Kind

Post by wheeler »

We just received a donation of property. How do I make the receipt in PowerChurch so that
it meets Canadian Government regulations.
To do that I need to a
Numbered Receipt
Description of property
and it must state it is a gift in kind

There isn't a good option of doing this in Powerchurch. It currently is not setup to handle such gifts-in-kind the way the Canadian government wants.

However, what you may want to do is create a receipt manually, and create a separate, numbered log that would suffice for keeping track of the sequential numbers for gifts-in-kind.

I suggest you check the Canadian tax regulations for the proper format.

In the States, my church will create a letter thanking the person for the donation, which will list a description of the property, and signed by the pastor or treasurer; we do not need to put a number on this. At tax filing time, the donor is then required to put a value on the donation.

However, having an option to create such a Canadian 'gifts-in-kind' receipt is a good one, and I've seen previous issues where this has been mentioned. You should send a request to the developers to see if this could be added to wishlist@powerchurch.com.
