export selected unposted contributions

Post by Pastor Drew »

I've not been able to find an answer so far, here's our situation:
The last backup file we have is from the end of March, but unfortuantely in early May the PC eperienced a catastrophic failure to the SSD.
We've been using an alternate PC to keep track of contributions and a few other things, but that instalation only had data through the end of 2025 and wasn't updated with the March backup before entering new data which is still unposted.

Now the original PC has been repaired (without the lost data) so now we want to merge unposted data from the alternate PC to the March backup file so that we can proceed and get the program updated (we will manually enter various other data from other records).

What would be a good way to do that? :?:

OK you have unposted data in Contributions. Unfortunately, there's no good way to merge the data from the 'alternate' into the 'system of record'.

Normally, if you had a good backup restored to the alternate I would have just said to do a Powerchurch backup of the contribution files, and restore that to the main computer. However, since you haven't you may have to either manually enter those transactions into the main system, or contact Powerchurch directly and see if they can do a merge for you.

If nothing else, this should impress upon you the need for a weekly (if not daily) Powerchurch backup stored on an external drive of some type.

Thanks once again, Neil.
That is what I had concluded and why initially we just entered them in another PC, assuming the main data would be recovered quickly and we would just manually re-enter a few weeks' data. Fortunately we are a small congregation without a lot of entries and have weekly printouts of contributions and checks printed, so it should not take too much to catch back up.

And yes, I am a big Jesus Saves proponent, but will make sure everyone gets on board with more consitent backups!
