Chart of Account Numbers

Post by nlehrlich »

The Chart of Accounts were set up so that all Sunday envelopes were deposited into a 00 fund, which is really the asset account. Expense for the Church are in 01-fund. Question, our fiscal year runs June to July. I just discovered this error and wonder how big a mess I'll make by renumbering all the 00 sunday envelopes to go to the 01-fund? Should I do this at the 1st of the year or wait until the end of my Calender year.
Any one have ideas on this? I don't want to mess up anyones contributions before year end. Thanks for the help.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, each fund has asset, income, expense and contributions. Usually the income numbers start at 4000 and the expense at 5000 (I'm going on memory here -- not in front of a PC+ system).

You should be able to re-align them within your 00 fund, me thinks.

I would recommend making a change like this after you have closed a month but before you make any contributions-related postings for the current or future months. 1st, you will need to change the debit and/or credit accounts on the Contribution Funds. 2nd, you will need to prepare and input journal vouchers to correct the entries that have already posted since the beginning of your FY to the present. You will need to make two sets of entries--a reversal for the incorrect postings and a reinput for the correct postings.

Changing the general ledger accounts on your contribution funds and doing these journal vouchers has no impact on the detail contribution records in the Contributions module. So you won't mess up anyone's contributions by making these adjustments.
