Merging disparate version 8 and 9 databases

Post by roberth »

The subject is not quite as dire as written, but it's accurate. Here is my problem.

I am a computer literate member of my church and was asked to take a look at their "Powerchurch" problem. The office staff knows very little about computers & software in general. I am not familiar with the software but have the manual now and found this website.

Here is what happened.

Four computers in the office - all point via Windows98 sharing to a single Win98 PC (the secretary) for PCPlus 8. She upgraded the main PC to PCPlus 9 in Sept 2004 and converted the database. PCPlus 8 remains on her PC. Everyone else (until yesterday) continued to use their shortcut to PCPlus 8!!

Fortunately, their job functions are quite different. The secretary continued to update the Membership information in version 9 from Sept 2004 until now - March 2005. Everyone else updated the Accounting, Records, Musc, etc. in version 8. As far I as know, there is no overlap of data within the same modules.

I've read a couple posts on this forum about this. Let me know if this would be the best way to fix it. If there are specific steps and methods to achieve this goal within the Powerchurch software, I'm all ears.

* Backup both PCPlus 8 and PCPlus 9 folders on the secretary's PC just in case and Zip them somewhere else.
* Do a backup of the Membership info specifically from the newer PCPlus 9 on the secretary's PC
* Uninstall PowerChurch Plus 9 completely from the secretary's PC.
* Reinstall PowerChurch Plus 9 again and reimport the lastest version 8 database.
* Restore my version 9 Membership I backed up.

Would that do it? After that, I know I should run Netsetup.exe on the other 3 PC's and kill their links to version 8. Download the latest patches from this web site, etc.

Let me know if this is correct.

Thank you.
Robert
