General Troubleshooting Tips


In a utopian world, everything is perfect. Computers never crash, users make no mistakes, the power never goes out, hard drives never go bad, "bugs" are little things that Orkin can exterminate, your cat never jumps across the keyboard, the "delete" key doesn't exist, and coffee never finds its way inside a keyboard.

Of course we live in the real world where all of the above are possible. If you are experiencing trouble with PowerChurch Plus such as odd error messages or locking up, the following steps may help to solve it:

  1. Reboot your computer. Rebooting the computer solves more issues that you could imagine. First close all programs then click on your Windows Start button, select Shut Down, and then Restart. If you are having trouble printing it doesn't hurt to turn your printer off for a few seconds, either. This will clear out the printer's memory and reset it.
  2. Reindex Data Files. After rebooting, start up PowerChurch Plus, select the Utilities menu, choose Reindex, and then Reindex All of Above Files. On a side note, you should be reindexing your data files every week or so to keep your PowerChurch Plus data files in good working order.
  3. Retry. After performing a reboot and reindex, try to recreate your problem. In many cases, the problem will now be corrected. If not, continue to step four.
  4. Reinstall. This step tends to strike fear into some users, but it shouldn't. Reinstalling PowerChurch Plus will not overwrite any of your data files. Rather, the install will simply replace the basic PowerChurch system files that may be the cause of your issue. Note: If you are running PowerChurch Plus on a network or you are are not familiar with installing software, please contact your computer administrator for assistance.
  5. Install the Latest Maintenance Release. Occasionaly we discover minor issues that may cause PowerChurch Plus not to function as it should. As we correct these problems we release Maintenance Releases. To download the latest Maintenance Release for your version of PowerChurch Plus, visit www.powerchurch.com/mr/.
