Using a USB Check Reader with Version 10 and higher

Please note: This article only applies to MagTek Mini MICR check readers P/N 22523003. Additional software is not needed to use the newer USB KE model check readers P/N 22523009.

Users of USB check readers with PowerChurch Online as well as versions 8.5 & 9 of PowerChurch Plus are required to run a separate program, the MagTek MICRSend software, which handles formatting and communication between the check reader and the PowerChurch Contributions Check Reader data entry screen.

Version 10 has been enhanced with the functionality to automatically handle the formatting and communication with the USB check reader. Continuing to run the MICRSend software will cause the USB check reader to not function properly in PowerChurch Plus version 10.

If you are experiencing problems with the functionality of your USB check reader in version 10, the first thing to check is that the "Ready to scan" text is showing on the Check Reader screen, as shown below.

Next, you would want to make sure that you have updated to the latest Maintenance Release of version 10. This can be downloaded from the following location:

www.powerchurch.com/mr

Once the Maintenance Release has been installed, if you are still experiencing problems, make sure that the MagTek MICRSend software is not currently running. You will see a small check reader icon in the System Tray at the bottom right of your screen. If this program is running, click the Right Mouse Button on the icon and choose "Exit". Now restart the Check Reader screen in PowerChurch Plus. You should see a dialog on the screen as we locate and program the check reader.

If you continue to experience problems, please contact Technical Support for further assistance.
