c:\powerchurch\pcplus9\pcplus9.exe is not a Visua FoxPro.exe

Post by reggie »

I have install PowerChurch 9 with SP 11-02-04 pcplus9.exe. As a single user if I startup powerchurch maybe 2 or 3 times I receive a error above
the subject.

This is a migration from 8.5 install. Has anyone seen this error.

It sounds like you need to reinstall - your .exe is corrupt. Actually, the best course of action may be to download and install the latest maintenance release available here: http://www.powerchurch.com/mr.

A suggestion with respect to the mr and the help drop down w/in PC:
- Would it be permissible to allow bona fide PC+ users direct access to the mr page on your website (from within the PC+ program?

This would preclude having to enter my RN, name, church name, address, etc. on the website.

My suggestion would be send the user directly to the mr page and allow the download.

Sure would be nice (hint, hint).

Or one better would be to allow the download directly from the Help drop down ala "windows update" feature.

Have an outstanding Thanksgiving!

FWIW ... you may want to talk to another company that does software for churches, but is not a competitor. SongShowPlus, is a display program used during contemporary services to display song verses, announcements, etc. ( www.songshowplus.com )

They recently added an update module that will take your registration number, verify it online, then check to see if there are any new modules for the program.

It actually runs well over a 56K dialup too. If nothing else, this could be added to the wish list for the next full release of PC+.

Using PC+ since 1999.

Noted. Just so you know, I'm planning an overhaul for the way all that is handled, so suggestions are appreciated. NeilZ's suggestion is pretty similar to what I have planned for now, but I'm still scribbling on my drawing board.

I reinstall several time with the MR or SP1. Yet if I load the pcplus9.exe the first it works OK. The second time it will give you the error that I have above.

It would be helpful to have some background information on your system. Things such as the PC's operating system, RAM, service pack level, networked etc.

If networked, the other systems/servers on the network.

If standalone, the number of users on the system and who has backup/restore authority.

Also, I'm not sure I'm following you regarding the error message.

Hope this helps,
Jeff

Server:

HW Specs
Pentium 4 2.66MHz 512,000 KB RAM
80 Gig HD
Windows 2000 Server SP 4
Wireless Network
netbios/IP Map drives

Clients

HW Spec
HW Specs
Pentium 4 2.66MHz 512,000 KB RAM
80 Gig HD
Windows XP Home Edition

All of our clients has +rwx authorty on powerchurch folder. Powerchurch is a shared folder between all of the clients as a map drive.

When I installed powerchurch on the server everything is fine. Then I proceed to perform a netsetup on the clients. Install are successfully. I also install the maintenance level of PowerChurch9 and latest download of netsetup.

When the clients start powerchurch by running pcplus9.exe everything is succesfully. You are able to login etc... The next time I execute pcplus9.exe a error appears

c:\powerchurch\pcplus\pcplus.exe is not a visual Foxpro EXE file

I notice I receive the same error when I excute the pcindex9.exe and pcdiag9.exe. I suspect there are some files that I getting corrupted and therefore none of the exe can recover. The support team says it maybe some caching issues I have turn off caching from the folder. I going to give that a try. If you have any advice please let me know. Powerchurch is useless right now until we can resolve the problem. Thanks

Have you installed the new update_netsetup9 file? It is a replacement for the netsetup9, if I recall correctly. Netsetup9 will then need to be run on each client.

You can find it here: http://www.powerchurch.com/support/downloads/

I would download this file, run it on each client and then load the most current mr next.

Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

Let me know.

I uninstalled Powerchurch 9 from the client and server. I remove the powerchurch folder from the server.

I installed Powerchurch 9. Reboot the machine. Powerchurch load and migrate the 8.5 data files. Then I proceed to install MR and netsetup_update.

From the client I map the drive and proceed to load netsetup.exe. netsetup.exe never appears.

When I try to execute pcplus9 I get the same error c:\powerchurch\pcplus9\pcplus9.exe is not a Visual FoxPro.exe file

When you indicated "netsetup never appears," does that mean that you cannot "see" the netsetup file in explorer via the mapped drive?

Does the powerchurch user logged into the client computer need to have a permission set added in order to view the mapped drive?

In a previous posting, you said that all of your clients have +rwx on the powerchurch folder. Does this statement imply that all of your powerchurch users inherit these permissions?

Do you have a user group named something like powerchurch?

I'm a bit con-fuzzeled :?:

When netsetup completes, you should have a PowerChurch Plus icon on the client computer. Do you have that?

Answer:
I was wrong it took such a longtime. I was able to install powerchurch via map drive from the client. The client install successfully. By this time the powerchurch files must have been corrupted. I cannot load powerchurch from client nor server. I get the error again

Does the powerchurch user logged into the client computer need to have a permission set added in order to view the mapped drive?

Answer:
I do not understand "a permission set added" all of my users map there drive automatically and has proper full control, read, write and excute permission from the shared folder.

In a previous posting, you said that all of your clients have +rwx on the powerchurch folder. Does this statement imply that all of your powerchurch users inherit these permissions?

Answer:
I answer this question above. But the answer is yes all fo the operating System user has Full contol,Read and write permission on the folder

Do you have a user group named something like powerchurch?

Answer:
Yes, I have a group call powerchurch. All of my users are a member of powerchurch.

I'm a bit con-fuzzeled

When netsetup completes, you should have a PowerChurch Plus icon on the client computer. Do you have that?

Yes I have a powerchurch prompt from the client.

At this point, the best I can suggest is for you to contact PowerChurch tech support.
