install runtime files

Post by flcamarillo »

I recently ran the most recent maintenance update and now I'm not able to maintain list of employees in the payroll module. A box pops up that says "PC Plus needs to install updated run time files Computer administrator rights are required
click ok to continue or cancel to exit without installing" When I click on ok nothing happens same as when I click on cancel.

I need to go into maintain list of employees to make some changes. How do I fix the issue??

This is a Windows permission issue, not a Powerchurch issue. Powerchurch is updating some files on your computer, if your computer account is a 'normal' account, and not an account with administrative permissions, Windows is going to ask that you enter the password for someone with administrative privileges.

A workaround is to have someone who has an admin account on that computer to log on, and either you or that person will then sign in to Powerchurch, and go into Payroll to maintain employees. The files will then update.

Running Netsetup has fixed this issue in the past.

In PowerChurch, go to Help > About PowerChurch. Right click on the System Information tab and choose "Run Netsetup". Click through any prompts until the process has finished.

Always learning something new ... such as the trick of how to run NetSetup from within the program. That's a new one on me. Need to file that one away. :)

I did the netsetup files from the help menu but that didn't fix the problem with me not being able to use the maintain employee list in payroll. Unfortunately the person who originally set up our Power Church software is long gone and he is the one who had admin rights. He apparently didn't let the next person who took his place know that so we have never had the admin password. I am the 4th person to do all the payroll and accounting for the church so I have no way of using the administrator powers. :(( If anyone has any suggestions on how we can change the admin password I would appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks to all the posted suggestions though

FWIW ... as I mentioned above .. the admin rights mentioned is WINDOWS admin rights, not program admin rights. Powerchurch has no idea who is doing the update when the installer says it has to update the program, that is strictly a WINDOWS admin. Since you get this message, then I am going to assume that you do NOT have an administrator account on that computer.

Since the NETSETUP did not work, I again suggest that you find someone who has an Windows ADMINISTRATOR account on that computer to log on to the computer, then you log in to Powerchurch and access Payroll. This should allow the update to proceed and correct the installation problem you are seeing.

As far as the Powerchurch ADMIN password, there is a way to get that reset. Download and fill out the form found here:
http://www.powerchurch.com/password

Then fax to the number listed on the form, or scan and email the form to the email address listed there. They will then assist you in resetting the Admin password.

I have encountered this on a clean install of Windows 10. PowerChurch 11.5 installed fine, but would not allow access to the Backup Restore Utility. The solution was to install, from the Windows administrators account, the Windows .NET framework. Once that done, all well. Hope that helps someone.

Please note that the fact that you have to have Windows Administrative rights when you install Powerchurch, which will install all the proper .NET prerequisites. This was pointed out in the previous posts, but thank you for your input.

I realize this topic is over a year old now, but I am currently having this exact problem.
I am running PowerChurch Plus 11.55 on Windows 10 with a local windows admin account and haven't been able to successfully "install updated runtime files". In particular, the PC115Calendar.exe file. The install goes seems to go without a hitch, but every time I attempt to "Maintain List of Employees" I keep getting this update request.

I've tried multiple PowerChurch restarts
I've tried multiple computer restarts.
I've installed the latest .NET framework

I really need to make a compensation change for my Pastor.

Thanks,
Brian

It sounds like you're running on a client. Try this

On your computer, head to the shared Powerchurch directory, then the INSTALL folder. Run the NETSETUP115.exe program. Tell us what happens.

I ran NETSETUP115.exe and that setup program ran smoothly, however it did not fix my problem. I ended up attempting to reinstall the latest maintenance release and I was rewarded with a "Missing msvcr71.dll" warning. I replaced that missing dll and then successfully reinstalled the latest maintenance release. When I attempted to run the "Maintain List of Employees" I had to once again attempt to reinstall the PC115Calender.exe file, but this time it worked.

Glad to hear you were able to get it fixed.

That said, the PC calendar executable does not normally disappear by itself. I'd be on the safe side and make it a 'safe' program in your antivirus/anti-malware program.
